This thesis focuses on exploring the possibilities that modern CAD tools offer in the context of designing according to environmental impact criteria. The integration of ecological criteria into product development is becoming increasingly important, and CAD systems such as SolidWorks today provide various functionalities that enable engineers to perform quantitative assessment and optimization of products with respect to environmental preservation. The thesis will cover the basics of specialized LCA tools in general and will further investigate CAD-integrated LCA tools. A case study will be conducted using the SolidWorks Sustainability tool, in which the influence of specific parameters on product sustainability will be examined. Additionally, it will be explained how designers can use this LCA tool to make their designs more environmentally friendly. The thesis will also analyze the advantages and disadvantages of such tools, as well as guidelines for their use.
