As part of the courses Product Development II and Design Theory – Practicum, Dr Tino Stanković from ETH Zurich will give a guest lecture titled Computational Design of Structures: From Lattices to Origami-Inspired Deployable Mechanisms on April 23, 2025, starting at 10:15 AM in Lecture Hall D.

The lecture will present student projects related to the computational design of lattice structures. Enabled by rapid advances in additive manufacturing, lattice structures offer a wide range of different design possibilities with great potential for creating structures with advanced macroscopic mechanical and physical properties. The second part of the presentation will focus on the computational design of structures and mechanisms based on origami principles, with practical examples.

Dr. Tino Stanković is a senior scientist at the Engineering Design and Computing Laboratory at ETH Zürich. His research focuses on developing computational models, methods, and tools to support design for additive manufacturing, as well as shape optimization, design process automation, and generative design. His current interests include the development of advanced computational design methods for the automatic generation and optimization of lattice structures, computational design of metamaterials and rigid-foldable structures based on origami principles, and computational design of personalized medical devices produced by additive manufacturing. Tino Stanković earned both his engineering diploma and PhD at FSB.

The lecture is organized by titled assitant professor Dr Danijel Rohde and lecturer Stjepan Flegarić, M.Eng. Mech. Eng. The lecture is mandatory for students enrolled in the Product Development II and Design Theory – Practicumcourses.
